After being crowned Locked in the Cage and WMMAC 145-pound champ, Scott Heckman is on to the next one. In this case, that means dropping down to 135 pounds to challenge Zack Makovsky- a homegrown favorite out of the Philadelphia Fight Factory and current Bellator champ.
Here Heckman (who fights out of Revolution Academy in Levittown PA) recaps his domination of another Philadelphia Fight Factory bruiser- Brian Jackson at Locked in the Cage 7 last Friday night, noting that he was almost choked out in the first few minutes of the fight before recovering and taking total control. He closes by letting Zack Makovsky know where he is looking to make his next comeup.
Being the Bellator champ, Makovsky is locked into the 2011 tournament and that should be Heckman’s focus. The bantam weight bracket hasn’t been published yet, so you have to figure that Heckman has a chance- Bellator Match Maker Sam Caplan was in the house last Friday and doesn’t hesitate to give golden tickets to local guys. While I would love to see Heckman get into the Bellator tournament, it would be prudent to schedule a fight at 135 pounds just in case Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney is on the fence about whether to invite him or not.
Setting sights on Makovsky is ambitious and bold for Heckman but, after the beating he unleashed last Friday, it shouldn’t be taken lightly.
