Matrix Fights 2 Preview — Andria Caplan (video)

Philly has plenty of talented female fighters, but they haven’t yet made their way to the cage, Andria Caplan will draw them a map.
While Philly’s MMA scene is flush with promising local prospects, they are, for the most part, all male - Tara LaRosa and Casey Roberts being the exceptions. And so on up the ladder; females have struggled to fit in — the UFC consistently shuns the better half. This isn’t a surprise but maybe it should be. Of the 50 or so legit fights to take place in Philly since sanctioning, only two have been female. While this sounds in line with the male dominated demographic, it isn’t, not in the crowd - where women represent a significant portion (especially in the c-word yelling department) or in the gym - where potential prospects of the female variety are not as rare as you might think.
This lack of female representation on the national scene - as well as our local scene - is mostly due to the gap between the gym (and seat in the crowd before that) and the cage. While good fighters have stepped up and dot the landscape, there aren’t enough to maintain a consistent level worthy of patronage, at least that’s the perception.
Andria Caplan is looking to step into that void and that’s good news for anyone planning to come out to Matrix Fights 2 this Friday night.
Having seen Caplan develop over the last three years, first at Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Untied and now at Daddis Fight Camps, it is a safe bet she will give everything she has against a more experienced Jennifer Martin. We can only hope her example will lead to more women filling in the ranks.

Sadley Andria reported on her Facebook that her opponent was unable to make the fight, leaving only hours to find a replacement which is a hard enough task under any time limit. So she will not be appearing on the Matrix Fights 2 card. This a real loss to the card and we hope to see Andria in the cage in the near future.
